Location

In many parts of Pound Ridge, the rugged landscape seems to have been only gently altered by humans since the glaciers receded. In contrast to some of its neighbors, the town, Westchester's smallest in population density, has marked its topography over the years not with highways and malls but rather with stone walls and narrow country roads that wind past meandering brooks, stone outcroppings and densely wooded hills. Pound Ridge boasts many large tracts of conserved and undeveloped land. Between the 4,315 acre Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, the efforts of the Westchester Land Trust and the Pound Ridge Land Conservancy combined with sensitive town planning, much of Pound Ridge will remain ``forever wild.``

Pound Ridge Golf Club

Conceived in the late 90s and over ten years in the planning and execution, the Pound Ridge Golf Club has taken its place in the pantheon of great metropolitan golf courses. The signature wit of Pete Dye’s designs, his enduring challenge for golfers to bring their best game and his sometimes maddening, more often inspiring, mathematical genius make Pound Ridge one of his most memorable courses. In his own words, “If you create in the mind of a golfer that he can remember some of the holes, that’s extraordinary. And then, if you make it look, and it will look, very demanding, if it’s still playable you’ve hit a home run.”

Bedford Playhouse

Home of Clive Davis Arts Center

The newly renovated Bedford Playhouse is an exciting resource for our community…a destination where Westchester and Connecticut residents gather for film, music, events – or just good food and drink.

Their three theaters are served by state of the art projection and sound equipment.  Together with the Clive Davis Arts Center, named for our largest donor, legendary music producer Clive Davis, the Playhouse presents a rich variety of programming. This includes first run movie releases, classics and family fare, independent and art house films as well as an author series, speaker events, music performances, art exhibits, educational offerings, and more.

The new Playhouse also features a luxurious “Tasting Room” that will host wine tastings and unique events — as well as a spacious café with a full bar, offering light, delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It will be a place where people can meet for a drink or a meal – even without seeing a movie.

Every road in Pound Ridge is identified, not by a conventional street sign, but by a pointing finger emerging from a fist attached to an arm bolted to a post, the whole thing painted white with black lettering. These beguiling signs were introduced in the 1950s by Guy Rainsford, a designer who lived in Pound Ridge, according to Ebie Wood, president of the Pound Ridge Historical Society. Originally cut from redwood, “they were so attractive they were being stolen,” Ms. Wood said, so since the 1980s, they have been made of metal.
